People often ask how I got interested in the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics.
I was signing autographs after a skateboarding demonstration when a teenage amputee in line started to tell me about how he uses his prosthetic leg to ride his skateboard.
He showed me how his prosthetic leg worked and that got me started thinking about “Where do prosthetic legs come from?”, “How are they made?” and “Who is improving their designs?”
After looking into educational pathways, I stepped away from traveling the world in professional skateboarding and snowboarding to pursue a career in the Prosthetic and Orthotic industry.
In 2006, I graduated from Spokane Falls Community College with an A.A.S. in Prosthetic and Orthotic Technology.
I completed 2 technical internships; the first at Preferred Prosthetics and Orthotics in Federal Way, WA and the second at The University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, WA.
Once I learned about the specialized system of pediatric bracing, called Dynamic Ankle Foot Orthoses, or DAFOs and their line of Fast Fit products, I knew that’s where I wanted to practice.
I started practicing at Cascade Prosthetics and Orthotics Inc. immediately after passing my ABC technical board exams. Since then I have devoted myself to matching patients with products that best serve their wants and needs.
I currently specialize in optimizing DAFOs so our pediatric and adult populations can practice their best position of function as often as they can. In addition to DAFOs, I also specialize in providing Cranial Remolding Orthoses for infants, using the STARBand from Orthomerica.
What I enjoy the most about working here at Cascade Prosthetics and Orthotics is caring for my patients at the highest level, treating them like family.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, skateboarding, snowboarding, and rock climbing in the Pacific Northwest.
